Frequently Asked Questions

Typically how any sessions would average anorexic require? Over what period of time and frequency?

Each anorexic patient has a unique story, even though they are very similar in their behaviour patterns. For frequency of sessions, it needs to be a minimum of once a week to support recovery. If parents are able to afford it, twice-weekly would really support a quicker recovery. Once the client is in a good space, we can progress to fortnightly, then monthly. Check-in sessions can be set throughout the year to make sure that relapse is to the minimum.

Do you provide calorie counted meal plans? How detailed are they?
Jenny does not provide calorie counted meal plans. Jenny educates her clients around the myths of calorie counting, and why calories are not all equal, in order to help her clients come away from the obsessions around numbers.
Exercise is not to be encouraged but weight restoration is, how would you deal with this?
Both Becky and Jenny work on the thought patterns behind the exercise in order to establish a healthy balance between the food and the exercise. Jenny also educates her clients around the importance of fuelling exercise, alongside the dangers of under fuelling, and how this can impact recovery.
What other experience do you have with similar clients, you could share?
Please do have a look at our testimonials on the website. Jenny Tomei has also recovered from exercise addiction, and can relate to her clients very well, she is very empathic towards her clients, which enables others to gain trust in her.
What methods of communication would you use?
We use a person centred approach, using gentle challenging coaching methods in order to support recovery and change.
How would you develop engagement?
Building the relationship is the most important part of coming into therapy and recovery. We both work on building up trust with our clients, which will help to establish a good rapport, and aid recovery. We work on supporting our clients through the highs and lows without creating shame or guilt in the process.
How would you measure changes or successes?
We will measure changes/successes and thought patterns via the recovery record app. We also set SMART goals for every client. SMART goals help clients break down big goals into broad, specific, actionable steps, and micro-goals, which help to provide direction.
